Innovative research also thrives on exchange with stakeholders outside of academia. Consequently, projects operating under the concepts of 'Citizen Science' or 'Co-Creation' have increasingly established themselves as new project formats within the research landscape in recent years. These projects aim to involve citizens in general, or specific population groups in particular, in the research process. This direct exchange with society not only benefits research, but also helps participating citizens acquire new skills and strengthens their trust in science.
